The journey

The southern tip to the Tsitsikamma

The Garden Route begins a few hours east of Cape Town and this itinerary takes it slowly: the southernmost tip of Africa at Cape Agulhas, the Tradouw Pass into the Little Karoo, two nights in Oudtshoorn for the Cango Caves and an ostrich farm, Knysna and the Heads, then two nights in the Tsitsikamma for Monkeyland, Birds of Eden, the national park and Storms River Mouth.

The tour ends with a city orientation in Gqeberha, where you can be dropped at Chief Dawid Stuurman Airport on request. The first four days are shared with the four-day Magnificent Garden Route tour.

Scheduled small-group departure (minimum 2, maximum 10 guests). Accommodation is as named or a similar standard; the exact hotel is confirmed at booking. Two guests travel in a sedan; three to ten guests travel in a 13-seater vehicle.

Cape Town – Cape Agulhas – Oudtshoorn (Monday)

An early start over Sir Lowry's Pass to Grabouw and Elgin, with a stop at a farm stall of Overberg produce. On to Cape Agulhas, where the Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet, and its historic lighthouse. Via Swellendam and the Tradouw Pass to Barrydale and Route 62, roosterkoek cooked over the fire, and Oudtshoorn for dinner at an ostrich farm. — Meals: light lunch, dinner · Accommodation: La Plume Boutique Hotel (4-star) or similar · About 550 km (departs ±07h30, arrives ±17h30)
Oudtshoorn (Tuesday)

Oudtshoorn – Knysna (Wednesday)

To Plettenberg Bay, with a stop at Mungo, a family textile mill weaving on antique looms. Tsitsikamma (Friday)

Tsitsikamma National Park and Storms River Mouth (weather permitting): 80 km of rocky coastline, fynbos valleys and forest gorges running down to the sea. Tsitsikamma – Gqeberha (Saturday)
