The stay
Early-1900s camp style, present-day comforts, inside Kruger
Hamiltons takes its name from Colonel James Stevenson-Hamilton, Kruger's first warden, and its look from the explorer camps of the early 1900s: six tented suites with teak floors and mosquito-netted beds, joined by raised timber walkways through old jackalberry trees above a seasonal river. The comforts are current, though: air conditioning, a Victorian free-standing bath and a rain shower with a view, a safe, a Sala lounge with leather couches and a hospitality cabinet, and a private plunge pool on each extended deck. Two open-vehicle safaris a day of three hours or more run on the private Mluwati Concession with off-road rights, with coffee stops and sundowners in the bush, and Nomadic African Spa treatments are available in camp. The rate covers three meals, selected drinks and both daily safaris.

Self-drive via Orpen Gate (primary) or Paul Kruger Gate on Kruger's H7/S106/S140 roads; the camp supplies turn-by-turn directions. Road transfers from Hoedspruit or Skukuza airports are booked on request (minimum two people).
