A small tented camp for adults on a big private reserve
Buffalo Camp is Kapama's tented option: ten canvas-and-glass tents on stilted wooden platforms, joined by raised walkways above a seasonal riverbed. It is reserved for guests aged 16 and older, which keeps the pace of the camp deliberately quiet. Kapama itself is a 15,000-hectare private reserve near Hoedspruit, with Big Five game viewing on its own road network and a rim-flow pool, lounge and open-air boma at the camp. Two game drives a day, a guided bush walk, all meals and a selection of local and premium drinks are built into the rate, as is the transfer from Hoedspruit's Eastgate Airport, which is a short drive away. Spa treatments are taken at the Karula wellness centre elsewhere on the reserve, with a free shuttle laid on.
Why choose Buffalo Camp over the other Kapama lodges
Choose it when you want Kapama's reserve, guiding and inclusive rate but at ten tents rather than the far larger River Lodge, and when you specifically want an adults-only atmosphere. The tents keep proper comforts (air conditioning, en-suite bathroom, minibar, plugs) while feeling closer to the bush than a suite does. The trade-off is scale of facilities: the spa and gym are at Karula, not in camp.

Guests may self-drive to the camp on marked roads only; all game viewing is on Kapama vehicles with a guide. Scheduled flights to Eastgate from Johannesburg and Cape Town; Kapama meets guests at the airport in open vehicles. Private Pilatus PC-12 charter available to the reserve's own runway.

No. Buffalo Camp accommodates guests aged 16 and older only. Kapama River Lodge, Southern Camp and Karula welcome children.

Can I drive myself to Buffalo Camp?
Yes, via the R40 from Hoedspruit to the Kapama entrance, but only on the marked roads to camp. All game viewing is done on Kapama's vehicles with a guide.
