The Waterberg: bushveld safaris in Mabula and Welgevonden.

The Waterberg is a region of bushveld and hills north of Johannesburg. We plan safari stays in two of its reserves: Mabula Private Game Reserve near Bela-Bela, and Welgevonden Game Reserve. It is an overnight safari rather than a day trip, with game drives from the lodge.

MABULA PRIVATE GAME RESERVE

Mabula, near Bela-Bela

Mabula is about two to two and a half hours by road from Johannesburg. Its lodges range from a large lodge with a spa and a play zone to a five-tent camp.

Welgevonden Game Reserve

Welgevonden Game Reserve is in the Waterberg and has controlled vehicle access. Guests leave their own vehicle at the reserve entry point and transfer to their lodge in a safari vehicle; some lodges can also be reached through the reserve airstrip.

Our Welgevonden lodges are arranged on request. Tell us who is travelling and we will suggest the right one.

Getting there from Johannesburg

There is no scheduled Spurwing tour to the Waterberg. For a lodge stay we can arrange a private road transfer from Johannesburg or O.R. Tambo. In Welgevonden the last stretch is always in the lodge’s vehicle.
