The stay
A Sabi Sand camp that has stayed small since 1964
Notten's has been owned and run by the same family since 1964 and still has nine suites, which in the Sabi Sand is unusual. Each suite is open-plan with an en-suite bathroom, indoor and outdoor showers, air conditioning and a private wooden deck; the camp keeps electric lighting to a minimum after dark and uses candles and lanterns instead, though suites have charging points and there is a secured Wi-Fi network. A 20-metre lap pool, a separate spa pool and massage treatments cover the middle of the day. The rate covers three meals, two game drives and a bush walk each day, local soft drinks, house wines and beers, and there is no single supplement, which makes it one of the more accessible ways into the Sabi Sand for solo travellers.

Self-drive via Hazyview on the R536 towards Paul Kruger Gate; the camp turn-off is signposted 37 km along, then 7 km of dirt road to the Sabi Sand gate, where gate fees apply. Transfers from Skukuza, KMIA and the Hoedspruit region on request.
